Soundaktor Editor

Instead of unplugging your sound generator, why not tune it to exactly the sound you want? The Soundaktor Editor lets you upload your device's firmware and adjust how it behaves — pitch, phasing, gain, sound texture, and how the sound responds to RPM, speed, throttle, and engine load. Whether you're after a subtle rumble or a dramatic engine note, you have full control.

Supports SAK-GEN2 and SAK-GEN2.5 devices by Kuhnke/Kendrion (part numbers … 907 159 / … 907 160). New here? The FAQ below covers the most common questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

The soundaktor and sound booster firmware for your car holds a configuration file that determines the specific behavior and sound of the device. This tool can be used to view and finetune these specifics to your own needs. It is specifically meant for SAK-GEN2 devices, produced by Kendrion (formerly Kuhnke). Part numbers for this device are ... 907 159 for the internal soundaktor and ... 907 160 for the external soundaktor. Read all about the soundactor/soundbooster/soundgenerator/symposers on my friend's blog: https://mqb-blog.com/en/2022/01/16/sak-aga-hack/ Credits to him, Alex, for doing all his research.

  1. Upload a Soundaktor ODX or just the 56kB binary data file from a GEN2 soundaktor/soundbooster firmware.
  2. Make changes
  3. Preview the sound
  4. Save the file
  5. Flash the firmware with VCP or ODIS to your car*
  6. Enjoy the changes.

*If you don't know how to flash firmware, please refer to the manual of your favorite tool (like VCP or ODIS).

It's not possible to "download' the firmware from your car. Try to find the same software part number as your car, in the selection of example firmwares this tool offers you. Firmware is also shared online, and can be found on my github page.

No, not yet. This tool is very specific to GEN2 devices. Modifying GEN2.5 firmware with this data will lead to bricked hardware.

Make sure you set a default sound profile.

No. It can make you feel like it's faster, or cooler, or more tailored to your own needs. It can also make your neighbours angry, or make your car sound like shit.

Make sure you selected a base software which is idental or at least close to what you already had on your car. This vastly increases your changes for success.
Reason for this is that each firmware consists of 3 parts: bootloader, application and data. This tool only modifies the data part of the firmware, but the application part can have specific functionality or is expecting specific CAN-messages. Using an application version that doesn't work with your car will lead to error codes. I didn't reverse engineer the application, because I'm completely in the dark what it's actually doing.

Yes I do, see here. However, there's no public repository for this site and these tools. There were a couple of cases where I saw my own work being sold by companies or shady individuals. If you are interested in having the sourcecode because you want to sell the tools, contact me via Github. Or if you are Volkswagen A.G. and want to hire me: contact my boss. Please do not email me to ask for custom stuff, or to reverse engineer things for you specifically.
